Alexey Uvarov - historian, researcher of politics in Eastern Europe
Fields of expertise: nation building in the post-Soviet space, memory politics culture in Eastern Europe, memory culture and history politics in the Russian Federation
Alexey completed his bachelor's, master's and postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Political Science of Moscow State University. Worked as a research assistant at the Department of Political Science of Moscow State University from 2021 to 2022.
Since August 2022, he has been working and carrying out research at the Department of Eastern European History in Bonn University (Germany).
Alexey's main specialization is the symbolic policy of Putin's Russia - the use of historical images and symbols to legitimize the regime. Alexey has published articles on this topic in such media as "Meduza", "Novaya Gazeta Europe", and "Karenina.de" .
Alexey has published several analytical materials in the Lithuanian think tank "Riddle" on relations between Ukraine and Russia in 1991-2023. Among the topics of the analysis: the struggle for Soviet assets between Russia and Ukraine, the topic of gas transit during Russia's full-scale aggression, the use of images of the Russian "White Movement" in the war against Ukraine in 2014-2022.
