German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock emphasized that Ukraine's place is in the European Union during a visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, on Monday morning.

Ukraine can "rely on us and on our understanding of EU enlargement as a necessary geopolitical consequence of the Russian war," Burbock said upon arrival, according to the report.

Ukraine already has candidate status for EU membership, Barbock noted. "And now we are preparing to make a decision to start negotiations on accession to the EU."

As for judicial reform and media legislation, she noted that the results of reforms in Ukraine are already impressive.
However, there is still a long way to go in implementing the anti-oligarchic law and fighting corruption, she added.

This visit is the fourth since the outbreak of war in Ukraine in February 2022.
